4th of July Freedom and Liberty

July 4th is a time to reflect on how lucky we are to have certain freedoms and liberties not afforded to some other nations across the world. We also know this is a time many people cook out with family and friends, watch fireworks or maybe take a trip to the beach.

Something you may not have known was that there has been some discrepancy to our actual date of independence? The Declaration of Independence was announced on July 4th but wasn’t signed until August 2nd!

Did you also know that there have been 28 versions of the US flag to date? The last version was created when Hawaii and Alaska joined the union by a 17-year-old, named Robert Heft. He designed our current flag for a school project in which his teacher gave him a B-. Once his flag design won a national competition, his grade was changed to an A. Go figure.

However you chose to spend this holiday, please keep safety in mind. Also, please pay close attention to the pets in your life this holiday as more pets are lost every Fourth of July than any other day of the year. The fireworks that we all love can cause fear and panic in our 4-legged friends.
